Cover for Contractors, Developers, and Construction Firms

Construction sites pose numerous risks and hazards that can lead to accidents, property damage, and liability issues. Identifying these risks and arranging the correct construction insurance is vital to safeguarding your business.

From Contractors All Risk and Professional Indemnity through to complex liability and project-specific placements, we help ensure your insurance aligns with how construction risk can actually impact your business.

JCT 2024 Insurance Options

Understanding JCT insurance requirements remains one of the most important factors in Construction Insurance. The allocation of responsibility under JCT contracts directly impacts who arranges cover, what needs to be insured, and in whose name.

Choosing the wrong option can lead to disputes, gaps in cover, breach of contract conditions, and uninsured losses. We can assist with ensuring you have the right construction insurance to meet your needs.

Regulatory Scrutiny from BCA & HSE

The Building Safety Act (BSA), a result of the Grenfell Tower tragedy, has increased scrutiny by introducing new roles and responsibilities to improve building quality and safety. A central requirement is maintaining the “Golden Thread” of accurate, accessible, and up to date information throughout the lifecycle of a building.

The Building Control Authority (BCA) with new regulatory, inspection, and enforcement power, along with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), means Management Liability is paramount. With the power to prosecute individual directors or managers, if a breach of regulations occurs with their explicit or implied consent or negligence.

MMC & Timber

The push toward sustainability and efficiency has accelerated the adoption of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), including modular builds and off-site fabrication. These innovations can bring new challenges because of fire performance, storm damage, repairability, storage exposures, and limited historical claims data. Contract works options are available, but it does mean additional premium.

Protect Against Building and Construction Site Risks

“Construction sites pose numerous risks and hazards that can lead to accidents, property damage, and liability issues. Identifying these risks and arranging the correct construction insurance is vital to safeguarding your business. By understanding what can go wrong, construction companies can take proactive measures to ensure a safe working environment and put in place the correct insurance policies.”

Construction claims can be complex, involving multiple parties, contractual obligations, and technical assessments. Whether it’s a flood, fire, theft, collapse, or structural failure, the claims process can quickly become challenging. Claims advocacy means challenging the insurer and leveraging the weight of the WTW Network to ensure that you obtain a full full settlement under the terms of your policy.

Fair Value Statement

Our construction insurance solutions are designed to provide fair value to contractors, developers, and construction professionals by offering cover that reflects the nature, scale, and contractual requirements of their projects.

Fair value is achieved where the level of cover, policy terms, and limits are appropriate to the risks involved, and the premium paid is proportionate to the protection provided.

Frequently Asked
Questions

What is the difference between Public Liability and Contractors All Risk?

Chevron down icon

Public liability covers injury or property damage to third parties. Contractors All Risk covers damage to the actual construction works in progress and site assets.

Why can't we just use a direct online tool for our CAR insurance?

Chevron down icon

Given the complexity of cover and the different requirements, there is no direct online tool to obtain a quote for CAR Insurance in the UK. The process can be relatively simple, but we will require you to engage with us before we seek quotes to meet your needs.

Why do we need a standalone Cyber policy if we have Contractors All Risk (CAR)?

Chevron down icon

‘All Risk’ does not extend to cyber and CAR policies will contain exclusions. To ensure protection for data breaches and cyber-attacks you’ll need a separate Cyber Insurance. With the expansion of technology within the construction sector, it’s recommended a policy is purchased to ringfence the exposure.
